Assemblymember Robert Rivas Applauds Governor’s Proposed Investments in Underserved Communities and Climate Resilience

Sacramento, CA— After the release of Governor Gavin Newsom’s proposed state budget this morning, Assemblymember Robert Rivas released the following statement:

“As the Golden State faces rising housing costs, the impacts of climate change, the spread of Omicron, and more, I commend Governor Gavin Newsom’s unprecedented and historic 2022-2023 budget proposal, which will improve the lives of millions of California residents. As Vice-Chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, I’ve seen first-hand the disproportionate impacts COVID-19 has on communities of color. I was encouraged to learn of the Governor’s proposed allocation of $2.7 billion for additional testing, medical staff, and vaccine administration. The Governor’s budget also includes $92.1 billion in education spending, which will expand learning opportunities for students from pre-school through college, in addition to almost $500 million to improve school nutrition. Additionally, the Governor’s $1.1 billion investment in climate-smart agriculture incorporates many of the priorities set out in our food and agriculture bond proposal, AB 125. Finally, I was heartened by the Governor’s proposals to improve the housing supply, especially for our most vulnerable populations including the elderly and the unhoused. I look forward to working with the Governor and my colleagues over the coming months to make these visionary investments in our state and communities a reality.”
