Friends and Neighbors,

Natural disasters are a reality for all Californians. Yet, many don’t consider themselves at risk unless they live near a fault line like the San Andreas or Hayward Fault. However, recent devastating fires, earthquakes, and other disasters are clear reminders that we must take simple steps to protect ourselves and our loved ones.

Make a Plan

To ensure you're always informed and prepared during emergencies, it's vital to sign up for real-time alerts from your county. Monterey County residents can easily opt-in by texting their zip code to 65513, while San Benito County residents can join by texting "SBCalert" to 65513. For Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties, text your zip code to 888777 to receive important updates. You can also sign up for email alerts in Santa Clara County by visiting this link. These notifications deliver critical safety information, weather warnings, and advisories directly to your phone or inbox. Protect yourself and your loved ones—sign up today!

Each of our counties offers local resources to assist with disaster preparedness.

As always, it’s an honor to serve you and help keep our communities safe.

Sincerely,

Robert Rivas Signature Block

Assemblymember, District 29

Wildfires have long threatened our region, but I’m proud that CAL FIRE is stepping up efforts to protect our communities. Thanks to their Wildfire Prevention Grants Program, over $2 million has been awarded to organizations and projects throughout the Central Coast. From the Monterey County Regional Fire District to the San Benito Fire Safe Council, these grants will help us prevent wildfires and protect our homes, businesses, and families.

Our community in Salinas marked the day with a two-day parade and festival featuring many regional organizations and performances by Folklorico and Aztec dancers. Events like these remind us of the rich cultural heritage that shapes our state and our nation.

Throughout Hispanic Heritage Month, we honor the contributions of Latinos in California and beyond. Let’s continue celebrating the diverse traditions and cultures that make our communities vibrant and strong. Check out photos from The Californian newspaper in Salinas.
