On the one-year anniversary of the tragic and deadly firestorms, California leaders remember the lives lost, pay respect to grieving families, and reaffirm their unwavering support for Angelenos

SACRAMENTO — On the anniversary of the devastating Los Angeles firestorms, Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas, Senate President Pro Tempore Monique Limón and their Assembly and Senate colleagues gathered at the California Firefighters Memorial in Sacramento’s Capitol Park for a moment of silence, honoring the lives lost during the tragedy.

“Today, California grieves the lives lost, holds close families still hurting and extends our hearts to Angelenos forever changed. We honor the firefighters and emergency responders who fought relentlessly to protect their communities. On this anniversary, we remember, we mourn, and we stand with Los Angeles.” said Speaker Robert Rivas.

“One year ago today, we watched as the Los Angeles firestorms destroyed countless homes and devastatingly took the lives of thirty-one people,” said State Senate Leader Monique Limón. “From Sacramento to Los Angeles, the California Legislature will never forget that day, the heroic actions of our first responders, and the thousands of California families impacted. Our hearts are with our colleagues who are in their communities today – we stand in solidarity with them today and every day.”

Speaker Rivas and Pro Tem Limón laid flowers at the memorial in tribute to the victims, their families, and the communities forever changed by the fires. 

The moment was marked by reflection and gratitude for the firefighters and first responders, who risked their lives fighting to protect the Los Angeles community.

Lawmakers in Sacramento expressed their deepest condolences to those grieving in Southern California, and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to standing with impacted families and honoring the memory of those lost.
