Speaker Rivas, Assembly Agriculture Committee Chair Esmeralda Soria Highlight Water and Agriculture Innovations at Fresno State

The Assembly leaders learned about the university’s efforts and leadership supporting California’s farmworkers and ag economy

FRESNO — This week, Speaker Robert Rivas joined Assembly Agriculture Committee Chair Esmeralda Soria for a tour of California State University Fresno, learning more about the university’s role in supporting agricultural innovation, strengthening California’s economy and preparing the next generation of leaders.

During the visit on Tuesday, Speaker Rivas and Assemblywoman Soria toured the university’s Jordan Agricultural Research Center and discussed Fresno State’s leadership in water research, agricultural technology and workforce development — priorities that are essential to the Central Valley and communities across California.

“Fresno State plays a critical role in advancing the applied research and technology California needs to strengthen our water systems and agricultural economy,” Speaker Rivas said. “The work happening here supports farmers and communities across the Central Valley. I’m grateful for Esmeralda Soria’s leadership and the collaborations that make this innovation possible.”

“We always take pride in welcoming Speaker Robert Rivas to the heart of California’s agricultural economy,” said Assembly Agriculture Chairwoman Esmeralda Soria (D-Fresno). “As a former Ag Chair himself, Speaker Rivas knows the importance of continued investments in water distribution and water supply to the nation’s agriculture engine in the Central Valley. Fresno State continues to lead the way in protecting farmers, ranchers, and our precious water supply when it comes to their ever-expanding agricultural technologies.”

The CSU system serves nearly half-a-million students across 23 campuses. Fresno State is a hub for research and education that supports California’s food supply, water resources, and regional workforce.

Speaker Rivas thanks Assemblywoman Soria for her partnership in advocating for farmers, farmworkers and the Central Valley community.
