Speaker Rivas Highlights Millions in New Grants to Expand Housing Opportunities in Central Coast and Across California

Funding aligns with Speaker Rivas’ statewide push to build more affordable homes faster, cut red tape and help workers live closer to their jobs

MONTEREY COUNTY — Speaker Robert Rivas is highlighting a major wave of new housing investments that will support families across the Central Coast and communities statewide — helping Californians stay in their homes, purchase their first house and build long-term housing stability.

This state funding includes millions of dollars in CalHome and Joe Serna Jr. Farmworker Housing Grant Program funds for organizations serving communities across the Central Coast and throughout California.

This funding supports mortgage assistance and homeownership opportunities for lower-income households and agricultural workers, helping families access safe, stable and affordable housing.

Across the state, nearly $181 million in CalHome funding has been awarded to revitalize communities and increase housing opportunities for more than 1,200 households.

These grants complement California’s broader effort to expand pathways to homeownership, stabilize the cost of living, and ensure working families have access to safe, secure housing.

Delivering Statewide Progress

Under Speaker Rivas’ leadership, the state has advanced first-in-the-nation efforts to build affordable homes faster, especially in our cities and urban areas, along with protecting renters and expanding pathways to long-term stability for low- and moderate-income Californians.

This grant funding coincides with a major turning point for housing affordability in California. Several landmark housing laws championed by Speaker Rivas and the Assembly have already begun taking effect, while others roll out in the coming year — accelerating home construction with the goal of lowering costs for families and expanding housing options statewide.

A Long-Term Commitment to Affordability

California is combatting the housing crisis with real action. The Assembly remains committed to advancing policies that make the state more affordable, more livable, and more equitable for all Californians.
