Speaker Robert Rivas honors fallen CAL FIRE Firefighter Christopher Ward

SACRAMENTO, CA— Speaker Robert Rivas (D-Salinas) issued the following statement to honor fallen CAL FIRE Apparatus Engineer Christopher Ward:

“I am deeply saddened by the death of engineer Christopher Ward, who passed while serving his community. My sincerest heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and loved ones during this very difficult time. We hold a debt of gratitude for his service and commitment to helping and protecting others in times of great need,” Speaker Robert Rivas said.

Engineer Ward passed away on August 29 after suffering a medical emergency while on duty. A man described as embodying considerable passion and determination, he was known for his “sharp wit and loving nature.” He was 47.

He began his career with CAL FIRE in June 2020 as a seasonal firefighter with the San Benito-Monterey Unit. By August 2022, he was promoted to serve as a Fire Apparatus Engineer on the Pinnacles Fire Crew.

He is survived by his wife, daughter and son.

A service to honor the life of Christopher Ward will be held this Saturday, September 7, at NOON at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1670 Cienega Road in Hollister. More information can be found here.
