(SACRAMENTO) – Assemblymember Robert Rivas (D-Hollister) issued the following statement in response to Governor Gavin Newsom’s 2019 State of the State address:
“Governor Gavin Newsom reinforced his commitment to a cleaner and smarter California and to tackling our state’s most pressing issues head on. This is a Governor who is serious about housing because it’s a serious problem. And we know it’s not just a big city issue; the state’s housing shortage has a huge impact on our rural communities,” said Rivas. “That’s why I’m committed to working with the Governor and local leaders to ensure that all Californians are able to put a roof over their heads. A key piece of this for our district is ensuring that farmworkers have the quality, dignified housing they deserve.”
“The Governor also continues an intelligent push to increase access to quality healthcare. In order to move towards universal coverage, we need to make the most out of every dollar. The Governor’s single purchaser proposal for prescription drugs is a smart idea towards that end.”
“High speed rail presents much promise in concept, but the Governor is right in his assessment that the current state plan is just going to take too long and cost too much,” Rivas continued. “I support the Governor’s shift to focus on the valley section of the high speed rail line and free up other resources for important regional rail and transit projects. I am committed to work with our local communities and leaders to find transit solutions that best meet our needs.”
Assemblymember Robert Rivas (D-Hollister) represents California’s 30th Assembly District, which includes all or portions of the cities and towns of Aromas, Big Sur, Chualar, Gilroy, Greenfield, Gonzales, Hollister, King City, Morgan Hill, Salinas, San Juan Bautista, Soledad, Spreckels, and Watsonville.
