Speaker Rendon Announces New Community College Internship Program
SACRAMENTO— As part of the Assembly’s ongoing efforts to create a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace, Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood) announced today that the Assembly is launching a new Community College Corps internship program.
This program will provide community college students the opportunity to gain work experience in the Legislature through paid internships. Speaker Rendon released the following statement:
“As a former community college student, I couldn’t be more excited for the launch of our new internship program. This four-month paid internship is designed to work with the students’ school schedules, and provide them legislative work experience and leadership skills,” said Speaker Rendon. “It’s not just the students who will benefit. Community college students bring with them unique perspectives and life experiences that will help the Assembly create better policy for California.”
“Speaker Anthony Rendon and the State Assembly have created an incredibly meaningful program that will have impact throughout the state,” said Larry Galizio, President and CEO of the Community College League of California. “Allowing community college students to work and learn in a legislative office is a tremendous opportunity usually only offered to a student at a four-year college. We appreciate Speaker’s acknowledgement of the value of our colleges and the students they serve, and are proud to be part of this effort.”
Intern selection is happening now, and interns will be placed in member offices within the next few weeks.
