SACRAMENTO — Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Paramount) has appointed Polly Low, the Mayor Pro Tem of the City of Rosemead, to the California Commission on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs.
Low, who has served on the Rosemead City Council since 2007, has long been active in the community. She has served as the President of the Chinese Elected Officials, the Board of Directors of the League of California Cities and President of the Asian Pacific Islander Caucus of the League of California Cities. At the national level, Low is now serving as the President of the Asian Pacific American Municipal Officials of the National League of Cities.
“I’m delighted to be able to appoint someone with Polly Low’s knowledge, experience and energy to the California Commission on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs,” Rendon said. “Asian and Pacific Islander communities are the fastest growing ethnic populations in California and in the nation, and the Commission does important work in helping the Legislature and other officials recognize the communities’ needs, issues and concerns. Polly Low will provide an important and effective voice in that effort.”
“I am very honored to serve as Speaker Anthony Rendon's appointee to the Asian Pacific Islander Affairs Commission,” Low said. “I look forward to serving in this capacity to help address the multi-faceted issues that impact the diverse API community and more importantly help improve the quality of life for this community.”
The Commission advises the Legislature, Governor, state agencies, departments and commissions on issues related to the social and economic development and the rights and interests of Asian Pacific Islander communities.
Low received her Bachelor’s Degree in Math/Computer Science from UCLA and her Master’s degree from Loyola Marymount University. She has worked in the aerospace industry for over 30 years and is currently employed by Raytheon as a Software Engineering Manager.
